Atlantic Salmon Trust
Putting Wild Salmon First
The Atlantic Salmon Trust (AST) was founded in 1967 in response to growing concerns about over exploitation of wild salmon. AST has acquired a reputation as an influential advocate for salmon conservation within the United Kingdom. Traditionally its work has been in the freshwater environment, but more recently we have focused on the lives of wild salmon at sea. AST launched an ambitious and ground-breaking idea that would help us better understand what is happening to our beloved bars of silver on their journey to sea. The Moray Firth Tracking Project launched in Spring 2019 and has tagged 850 smolts across 7 project rivers.
